OPIS Cookie Policy

Introduction

Oil Price Information Service LLC and Dow Jones Energy Limited (collectively, “OPIS” “us,” “we,” or “our”) want you to be familiar with how we collect, use and disclose information from and about you because we respect your concerns about privacy, and we want to maintain your trust. We and our service providers collect information by automated means when you visit, access, or use our websites, products, or services (“Platforms”) that link to this Cookie Policy. We collect information through cookies, web beacons, pixels, server calls, web server logs, and other tracking technologies (collectively “Cookies”) to deliver and improve the Platforms, and to display relevant content, products, services, and advertising.

This Cookie Policy describes the information we obtain from Cookies, how we use Cookies, and how you can manage them. By using the Platforms, you acknowledge you have read and accept this Cookie Policy. We may periodically update this Cookie Policy without prior notice to reflect changes in our practices. Please take a look at the Effective Date at the top of this page to see when this Cookie Policy was last revised.

Our use of Cookies may involve the processing of Personal Data (i.e., any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual, such as IP addresses, or other online mobile identifiers). For more information about our data protection practices, see our Privacy Policy.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your computer when you visit websites. When you visit any web site, it may store or retrieve information on your browser, mostly in the form of a cookie. This information might be about you, your preferences or your device and is mostly used to make the site work as you expect it to. The information does not usually directly identify you, but it can give you a better and more personalized web experience.

Cookies can be ‘Session Cookies’ or ‘Persistent Cookies’. Session Cookies allow a website to link a series of your actions during one browser session, for example to remember the items you have added to a shopping basket. Session Cookies expire after a browser session and are therefore not stored on your computer or device afterwards. Persistent Cookies are stored on your computer or device between browser sessions and can be used when you make subsequent visits to the website, for example to remember your website preferences, such as language or font size.

Cookies we use and their purpose

We use five types of Cookies – ‘Strictly Necessary’, ‘Performance’, ‘Analytics Cookies’, ‘Functional’ and ‘Targeted Advertising’. A detailed explanation of the types of Cookie and the purposes for which we use them is provided later in this policy. However, if you are just looking for a summary, we use strictly necessary cookies to make our site work. We also like to set optional performance, functional and advertising cookies to help us improve the site and give you a bespoke experience so it works better for you.

OPIS respects your right to privacy and gives you control over how cookies are set on your browser. Subject to applicable law, you may be presented with a Cookie Banner with links to a Cookie Preference Centre. We encourage you to interact with different categories of cookies and adjust your preferences. Visitors without access to this functionality can use their browser settings to control how cookies are set on their devices. However, blocking some types of cookies may impact your experience of the site and impair the services we are able to offer. You can find more detailed information about how to control cookies later in this policy.

How to control cookies?

You can control and manage cookies in various ways via your browser or, for visitors from selected countries, by adjusting your preferences via a Cookie Preference Centre. Please bear in mind that removing or blocking cookies can impact on your user experience and parts of the site may no longer be fully accessible. You may need to refresh your page for your settings to take effect.

Browser controls
Most browsers will allow you to see what cookies you have and delete them on an individual basis or block cookies from particular or all sites. Be aware that any preference set will be lost if you delete all cookies, including your preference to opt-out from cookies as this itself requires an opt-out cookie to have been set. Please consult the “Help” section of your browser for more information or by visiting www.allaboutcookies.org. Your device settings may also allow you to prohibit mobile app platforms (such as Apple or Google) from sharing certain information obtained by automated means with us.

Where to find information about specific browsers
Find out how to manage cookies on popular web browsers:

Third party advertising opt-out
There are currently a number of industry managed self-regulatory programs for online behavioral advertising. To learn more about how to opt out of targeting and advertising cookies via these programs, you should visit the Your Online Choices page, the Network Advertising Initiative page, and the Digital Advertising Alliance’s Consumer Choice page. These opt-out tools are provided by third parties, not OPIS. OPIS does not control or operate these programs or the choices that advertisers and others provide through these tools. If opt out of receiving interest-based advertising, it does not mean that you will no longer receive advertising when you are using our Platforms. It just means that we will not use information collected about you for interest-based advertising and that any advertising you see will not be customized and may not be relevant to you. If you delete cookies, use a different device, or change web browsers, you may need to opt out again.

What cookies does OPIS use and why?

We use cookies on this site in five main ways:

Strictly Necessary Cookies
Necessary cookies enable core functionality such as security, network management, and accessibility. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You may disable these by changing your browser settings, but this may affect how the website functions. These cookies do not store any information that directly identifies you.

Performance Cookies
These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources, so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. The information collected by these cookies is used to create aggregated, anonymous analytics reports. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our site and will not be able to monitor its performance.

Analytics Cookies
We may use third-party web analytics services such as Google Analytics to help us understand and analyze how visitors use our Platforms. For more information on how Google Analytics uses data collected through the Platforms, as well as how you can control information sent to Google, visit: www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/. To opt out of Google Analytics cookies, visit: https://www.google.com/settings/ads and https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/.

Functional Cookies
We use functional cookies to enable you to move around the site and use its features such as accessing secure areas (e.g., content for registered users). These cookies also allow us to remember your user preferences and to generally tailor the site to you (e.g., to remember your language or region or whether you have already completed a survey). The information gained through the use of functional cookies is anonymous and is not used for any other purpose.

Targeted Advertising Cookies
The Platforms do not use targeting cookies to deliver targeted advertising to site visitors. If you have been directed to this page from another OPIS business or website, that site may include third party advertisers who display adverts on our websites and/or social network providers who provide ‘like’ or ‘share’ capabilities.

Our other websites may have relationships with third parties who may also set cookies during your visit to that website for remarketing purposes – in other words, to show you different products and services based on what you appear to be interested in. If you’d like to opt out, you will have to use your browser controls or set your preferences accordingly with any preference center functionality provided on that website.
